As a freelancer you do not need an extensive website, but you do need a good one. Clients almost always look you up before they call, even when someone referred you. A tidy site with a clear offer then makes the difference between a phone call and a missed job.
What does a website cost for a freelancer?
At TechGents a website with up to five pages and a clean, professional design costs €799 (excl. VAT). That is a complete custom site, mobile-friendly and fast, that you can edit yourself. If you want us to write the copy, add €350; for a logo or simple brand identity €450. If you want clients to book appointments online, that is €350 extra.
On top of that you pay ongoing costs for hosting, domain and maintenance. Our maintenance starts at €10 per month. So for a freelancer website, expect a one-off investment of €799 to about €1,600, depending on what you supply yourself.
Which pages do you really need?
For most freelancers five pages are enough. A homepage that tells at a glance what you do and for whom. A page with your services, as concrete as possible. A page about you, because clients choose a person. A few examples of your work or client testimonials. And a contact page with phone number, email and WhatsApp.
A blog is optional. It helps you get found over time, but only if you actually publish on it. An empty blog with one article from 2023 does more harm than good.
Build it yourself or have it built?
With Wix or Squarespace you can put together a site yourself for a few euros a month. That works if you have the time and enjoy it. In practice we often see such a site no longer updated after a year, loading slowly on phones and hard to find in Google. A professionally built site costs more upfront, but usually pays off sooner because it is built to turn visitors into clients.
How to save without sacrificing quality
Supply your own copy and photos; that saves money straight away. Start with five pages and expand later when you see what visitors look for. And choose a clean, professional design instead of a fully unique one: for most freelancers that is more than enough to come across professionally.
