Freelancer or web agency?
A freelancer is often affordable and personal, a large agency offers certainty but is more expensive and further away. A small agency sits in between. Here is how to choose.
| Freelancer | Small agency (like TechGents) | Large agency | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | Often the lowest, varies a lot | Fixed price, websites from €799 | Higher, more overhead |
| Contact | Directly with the maker | Directly with the builders | Via an account manager |
| Illness or holiday | Work stops | Covered within the team | Covered |
| Expertise | Often one specialism | Design, build, findability and apps | Broad, with specialists |
| Speed | Depends on workload | 3 to 6 weeks for a website | Longer projects |
| Maintenance after delivery | Varies | Maintenance from €10 per month | Contracts, often more expensive |
Prices from other parties change regularly; check their own websites for current amounts. Last checked: October 2026.
What to look for, whoever you choose
Always ask for a fixed price with a clear description of what is included. Ask who owns the website and domain name (that should be you), and what maintenance costs after delivery.
Look at previous work and read reviews. And notice how quickly and clearly someone responds before you sign: it says a lot about how things will go afterwards.
Why we chose to stay small
At TechGents you talk directly with the people who build your site, without account managers in between. At the same time we are more than one person, so your project does not stall when someone is ill or on holiday.
Any questions?
Not necessarily. A small agency with fixed prices is often comparable to an experienced freelancer, with more certainty about planning and maintenance.
At TechGents, you do: the site, the copy and the domain name. Check this with every party before you sign.
Put them side by side on what is included: number of pages, design, copy, findability, hosting and maintenance. A low price without maintenance can work out more expensive per year.
