Shopify, WooCommerce or custom?
All three can deliver a fine webshop. The difference lies in monthly costs, ease of use and how much freedom you need. Here you can see what fits your situation.
| Shopify | WooCommerce | Custom | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly platform costs | Subscription plus transaction fees | No platform subscription, but hosting and plugins | Only hosting and maintenance |
| Ease of use | Very easy | Good, a bit more technical | Set up exactly for how you work |
| Maintenance | Largely by Shopify | You keep up with updates and security | By us, in a maintenance plan |
| Freedom | Within the platform’s limits | Large, through plugins | Unlimited |
| Suitable for | Standard webshops that need to go live fast | Shops already running on WordPress | Unusual processes, B2B, integrations |
| Build cost at TechGents | From €1,750 | From €1,750 | On quote |

For most business owners: a proven platform
If you sell a clear range in a standard way, Shopify or WooCommerce is almost always the wisest choice. Cart, payments and shipping are already well handled, and you are live quickly.
Shopify is the easiest to use and maintain, but you pay monthly and per transaction. WooCommerce has no platform subscription, but needs more maintenance.
When custom is worth it
With unusual processes, such as custom quotes, subscriptions, B2B prices per customer or integrations with your own systems, you hit the limits of standard platforms. Custom is then more expensive to build, but often cheaper in the long run.
Any questions?
From €1,750 (excl. VAT) for a shop with up to 50 products. Between 50 and 500 products adds €1,000, over 500 products €2,500.
Yes, products, customers and orders can be moved. It does take time, so ideally choose a platform that fits your growth straight away.
With each payment the payment provider charges a small amount or percentage, and Shopify may add platform fees. Include this in your margin.
